BI Norwegian Business School invites applications for the position of Professor / Associate Professor in Accounting at the Department of Accounting and Operations Management for the Oslo Campus, with a preferred starting date between August 2026 and August 2027. All research interests within the field of accounting will be considered.

The Department has 45 employees of whom 40 % are international and covers education and research within the fields of financial accounting, auditing, financial management, management accounting, logistics, supply chain management, and operations analysis at bachelor, master, and executive levels. Job description

Through its academic work, BI has an ambition to make its mark in the international research community while at the same time developing our students’ academic competence and skills. Relevance and impact on practice will be ensured through extensive contact with business and industry. Teaching must be based on the cutting edge of research, show practical relevance for working life and develop both academic competence and skills in the students.

We are looking for candidates with research track record in Accounting. Candidates should have published articles in journals that are rated as 4* or 4 within the subject area of Accounting in the ABS list. Publications in non-accounting journals on the Financial Times list may be considered, provided that they are (i) relevant to the accounting field and (ii) rated at least 4 on the ABS list. Successful candidates will join and strengthen an active and ambitious research group focusing on auditing, corporate governance, and financial accounting. They will further play an instrumental role in our professional master’s degree “Master of Accounting and Auditing” as well as the development of the PhD-specialization in Accounting. Qualified applicants will be invited for a seminar presentation and interviews.

Expectations and obligations

Our faculty is expected to provide teaching and supervision of a high academic and pedagogical quality and is expected to continuously develop their teaching skills, e.g. by making use of new technology, new ways of learning and new forms of assessment. We have a focus on quality and competence development and pedagogical activities should be continuously documented, supporting the process for further academic career development to all positions.

For all positions with research duties BI has high expectations for research production. Failing to meet the expectations could lead to increased duties in teaching.

Those employed in a scientific position will also have teaching and pedagogical development responsibilities. In addition to traditional teaching, the position includes development of courses, learning activities, forms of evaluation, and guidance.

Qualification Requirements

Scientific positions

  • PhD degree in Accounting or other relevant field.
  • A significant academic production considerably above and beyond a Ph.D. Candidates should have published articles in journals that are rated as 4* or 4 within the subject area of Accounting in the ABS list. Publications in non-accounting journals on the Financial Times list may be considered, provided that they are (i) relevant to the accounting field and (ii) rated at least 4 on the ABS list.

Other assessment criteria

  • Language skills: fluency in English, both written and oral. All pedagogical and research positions must document language proficiency, according to Norwegian law, in Norwegian at minimum the B2 level or be subject to acquiring the level within 3 years of the appointment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Visibility within the international and national academic community.

The following qualifications will be also considered in the assessment of the applicants:

  • Documented experience with interactive and process-oriented teaching methods.
  • Knowledge of and interest in modern pedagogical approaches, as well as the development of study programs, is considered a plus.

According to governmental provisions BI has decided on requirements concerning the educational qualifications of permanently employed academic staff. As a minimum such qualifications shall meet the learning outcome of BI‘s pedagogical basic qualification courses or equivalent at all times. For the position of Associate Professor, and in some rare instances for international professors, this specific competence may be obtained within two years after commencing the position.

    - Be able to reflect on your own role as a teacher, and discuss and justify your own choices in planning, implementation and development of teaching and supervision. 
    - Documentation of cited conditions as educational competence course.
  • Other documentation that may be important for assessing the level of competence.
  • A statement of research and teaching.
